Australia — Tasmanians affected by the January bushfires will receive the last round of funding support this week.
The $1.4 million will help to rebuild homes and make-up for lost income for hundreds of applicants, largely in the Dunalley area.
The Tasmanian Bushfire Appeal Distribution Committee chairwoman Patricia Leary says some money has been kept in reserve following advice from the Victorian Fire Service.
“We’re limited of course to the money we receive, which was around $8.7 million,” she said.
“We’ve kept 500,000 in reserve.”
“We’re advised by people who have been through these sorts of dramatic events that it’s always a good idea to put some money in reserve for something that may develop, so in fact $8.2 million has been distributed,” Ms Leary said.
