Indonesia / Malaysia — The haze task force at Roesmin Nurjadin Airport in Pekanbaru was reinstated as of Wednesday due to the reoccurrence of smoke emitting from a number of hot spots in the last few days.

“The task force had moved to the Riau Disaster Mitigation Agency [BPBD] headquarters, but today it was reinstated at the airport for better coordination,” Riau BPDB chief Said Saqlul Amri told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday,

He added that the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) had not been involved yet because the haze was under control.

Although under control the BPDB chief said the situation would likely get worse next month because the dry season would peak in August, which could ignite more hot spots ahead.

The BPDB has four helicopters on standby to extinguish any hot spots with water bombing. Besides helicopters, BPBD also called on reinforcement from the local military headquarters and the local Public Order agency office.
