Spain — The Emergency Coordination Centre has reported that from Friday and throughout the weekend, there will be an “exceptionally serious situation regarding forest fires”, and reported that the warning level has been raised to the maximum, level 3.

In a statement, they say, “The situation is really dangerous and requires maximum prevention since any outbreak of fire could become a catastrophic forest fire”, therefore they are asking everybody to be exceptionally vigilant, as a precautionary measure, during this extraordinary time.

For their part, the Protección Civil in Orihuela has increased surveillance patrols within the municipality, especially in the Sierra Escalona and Hurchillo areas inland, as well as two other points of the coast, Castillo Don Juan y la pinada de Campoamor. These monitoring points are also accompanied by two fire support vehicles, as well as the usual rural patrols.

The emergency centre has also reminded all residents that any kind of intentional burning of materials of any form is banned until further notice and they ask that everybody take extra precautions, including proper disposal of cigarettes, rubbish and other items of potential risk, as well as being cautious in the event of works that may cause sparks.

This prevention plan will continue throughout the weekend in which the alert level is at this extreme risk status.
