Sri Lanka — A major fire that broke out in the Mihintale forest reserve located towards the southern part of the historic Mihinthala Rajamaha Viharaya destroyed around 25 acres of the forest.
The Sri Lanka Air Force, Civil Security Forces, Sri Lanka Army and Police, Anuradhapura city fire brigade together with area residents were trying to douse the fire and prevent it from causing further damage.
The Sri Lanka Air Force deployed a Bell 212 helicopter with a Bambi bucket, and a fire truck to help douse the forest fire. Our correspondent stated that around 80 percent of the fire had been doused. Police said that it was too early to give cause for the fire as investigations are still continuing.
If any any sabotage is proved, we will bring the suspects to book, the Police said.
