Kashmir / India — Forest fire which broke out in Bathooni area under the jurisdiction of Rajouri Police Station, along Jammu-Poonch highway at about 11.00 AM today caused extensive loss to the green trees.
Sources said the fire has spread in 4 kilometer area of Bathooni Panchyat and it has posed danger to Forest Protection Force headquarter, head quarter of 58 BRTF, and some area of an army artillery unit based at Dalogra.
People alleged that the fire broke out at about 11 AM but despite repeated intimations district administration has failed badly to make arrangements to douse the fire.
Sources said that army personnel have been fighting to douse the blaze since morning to protect their area while people were waiting for any help from administration.
Locals said that though the fire is about a kilometer away from their village but if not controlled could reach after 2-3 hours. All the people are out of their houses and helping the Forest Protection Force personnel to control the forest fire.
When contacted Brij Mohan, Joint Director FPF said that as per his information the fire was under control which spread in about 8-9 hector area in 39-R compartment.
