Israel — A fire broke out in the small forest surrounding Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem, causing a temporary closure of traffic on the nearby Levi Eshkol Boulevard. Several local fire brigades and volunteer firefighters were called in to contain the blaze.
It was not immediately known how the fire started, though local residents of the Ramat Eshkol neighborhood were in for a shock when a thick smoke cloud carried by the wind passed through the neighborhood.
Arson attacks by Arabs are taking place on a daily basis in Jerusalem.
Ammunition Hill, on the road to Mount Scopus and French Hill, was the scene of a fierce, bloody battle in the 1967 Six Day War that cleared the way for the IDF to reach the northern part of East Jerusalem. The memorial site is visited by hundreds daily.
