Serbia — Firefighters are still struggling to put out three fires near the southwestern Serbian town of Priboj. Strong wind is hindering efforts to put out the flames.

Around 60 hectares of forest have caught fire in the municipality of Leposavić in northern Kosovo.

Serbian police (MUP) Emergency Situations Sector’s Dragan Dončevski said that there had been four fires near Priboj on Saturday but that one had been extinguished.

“The firefighting continues in the remaining three locations – Jarmovac, Čelice and Crni Vrh, but the strong wind is blowing and making it harder,” he added.

“The fire near the village of Boračane in the northern Kosovo municipality of Leposavić spread over night to 60 hectares of forest,” Leposavić Municipal Council member Zoran Milojević told Tanjug.

He noted that the wind a difficult terrain were preventing the fire crews from localizing the fire.

There were numerous wildfires in the municipality of Leposavić last summer and they destroyed a significant number of forest areas.
