Thailand — BANGKOK, 16 April 2013 (NNT) – The latest air quality inspection in the northern region of Thailand has found that the haze situation has improved, thanks to the recent downpours in the area.

The Pollution Control Department reported on April 15 that the level of particulate matter (PM10), particles with diameter of 10 micrometers or less, was 38-121 micrograms per cubic meter during the latest 24-hour check, indicating overall air quality of between good and potentially posing health problem.

The Department has urged relevant agencies to urgently step up the control of burning activities in the smog-hit areas, and asked for cooperation from the locals to refrain from such an activity.

Children, senior citizens, and those with respiratory problems have been advised to stay out of areas blanketed with thick haze, or wear face masks if they have to be in the areas. Locals should also keep themselves updated on the situation and strictly follow health advice.
