South Africa — CAPE TOWN – Cape Town fire fighters said on Sunday they were on high alert for any flare-ups, following the massive veld fire in Duynefontein near Melkbosstrand.
A team of 70 fire fighters have spent the night damping down the area.
The blaze had endangered more than a dozen homes over the Easter weekend, two of them were evacuated.
City Disaster Management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said crews however managed to bring the fire under control in time.
The assistance of aerial firefighting by four helicopters bring the fire under control.
The authorities monitored the fire overnight ensuring that it doesnt spread or flare up again.
This, as at least 140 people were left homeless in various shack fires across the peninsula this long weekend.
