Korea– SUWON, South Korea (Yonhap) — Police detained a middle school student for setting fire near an ancient castle designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, an official said Friday.

The 13-year-old boy is suspected of starting a grass fire that burned some 1,200 square meters near Hwaseong Fortress, an 18th-Century castle in Suwon, some 45 kilometers south of Seoul.

Some 30 firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. The castle suffered no damage.

The boy lit the grass on fire after finding cigarettes and a lighter in the grass while playing with three other friends.
