USA — PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.- The man that was found along US-131 suffering from burns after catching fire Saturday afternoon has died.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a grass fire between US-131 near the Post Drive exit ramp at around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses who stopped to put the grass fire out and found a man on fire.

They used sand and their own shirts to put out the flames on the man.

The man sustained burns to 100% of his body and died a short time later at a hospital.

The victim drove to the location in a silver Chevrolet Impala, which was found parked along the shoulder of the exit ramp.

It was not immediately clear how the person caught fire, but investigators do not suspect foul play.

The man is from out of state and his name is being withheld until his family is notified of the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
