Colombia — Bogota, Colombian authorities have unsuccessfully tried to control for over a week a forest fire in Matanza municipality, in the northern department of Santander.

Since then, a group of fire fighters has been trying to put out the fire and not even Air Force choppers have succeeded.

In statements to the press, vice president of the Sustainable Urban Environmental Management of the Regional Autonomous Corporation Humberto Prada affirmed the situation is worrying.

Nearly 140 hectares of Matanza have been affected, while biologists assess the damages to the flora and fauna.
