USA — AUSTIN — The rain is certainly welcome in our area because of the risk of wildfires. Now a deal has been worked out to cut the red tape on fighting wildfires in Central Texas.
Officials with the Texas A&M Forest Service and Fort Hood army officials agreed on a plan to accelerate wildfire response.
Under the deal, several bureaucratic procedures are cut. State and military officials will be able to communicate and assist each other directly, collaborate on training and coordinate prescribed burns.
In the past, both agencies had to seek approval through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (FEMA) and then the Defense department, before they could work together.
