Ghana — Nsoatre – A 40-year-old hunter in the early hours of Wednesday shot and killed a 65 year-old fire volunteer at Nsoatre in Sunyani West District.

Kwasi J.B, 40, who is on the run, allegedly mistook Kramo Kofi Anane for game and shot him at close range, killing him instantly. The body has since been deposited at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani pending autopsy.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Superintendent Charles Botwe, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, said the deceased and his colleagues were on routine duties to check farmers against sending fire or matches to their farms to avoid bushfire when the incident occurred.

He said the fire volunteers had taken a position by the road side when Kwasi J.B. mistakenly shot and killed Anane.

The suspect, after the incident took to his heels, leaving behind his cutlass and the single barrelled gun. The police have mounted a search for him.
