Sri Lanka–– Firefighters from the police and security forces along with other volunteers are still trying to bring under control the blaze inside the Ohiya Forest nearly two days after the fire began, an official with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said a short while ago.
DMC Spokesperson Pradeep Kodippilli said that the blaze had spread to three more places deep inside the forest despite round the clock efforts to bring it under control.
Early yesterday the air force also pressed one of their helicopters into service and showered the area with water but with limited success, he said.
