Jewellery clue to dead man’s identity

Australia–– A ring, a diamond earring, a fake Gucci belt buckle and a nine-carat gold necklace may hold the answer to the identity of a man whose charred body was found in bush near the Gold Coast.
Police released today details of the jewellery they believe the man was wearing when he was killed and his body burnt in a bushfire.
The body was discovered by bushwalkers off Mount Nimmel Road, Austinville, on October 15. Police have launched a homicide investigation but are yet to identify the victim.
Senior Sergeant Mark Procter said police believe the bushfire occurred the same day the man was killed.

Firefighters believed the blaze started very close to where the body was found, he said.
Police have recovered from the site a nine-carat gold necklace, a peridot ring, a fake Gucci belt buckle and an earring stud with four diamonds.
They believe the victim was wearing all the items when he died.
“We believe someone out there has seen these items on a loved one or on a friend,” Sergeant Procter said.
There were no missing people in the state who matched the man’s profile and the investigation had been “frustrating” for police, he said.
Police have interviewed the families of a number of missing people, but the homocide investigation has stalled without the identity of the victim.
He is believed to be between 20 and 50 years old and between 170 and 180 centimetres tall.
Sergeant Procter said police believe they know the cause of death but are not releasing the details yet.
