Timber Faller Dies After Becoming Ill at Wash. Wildfire

USA –  A timber faller died Monday night after becoming ill while battling the Klone Fire in the Wenatchee Complex.

Chris Seelye, a contracted U.S. Timber Cutters employee, suffered a medical emergency as he was cutting down trees near a fire line during the afternoon hours in Entiat, Wash., according to The Seattle Times.

He was treated by medical personnel at the scene before being transported to a local hospital and was pronounced later that night.

About 12 timber fallers are contracted to help close to 2,000 firefighters put out wildfires in the Wenatchee Complex that have been burning for more than a week, Incident Management Team spokesman Randy Shepard told the newspaper.

“Our condolences go out to the family and the firefighting community,” a statement from the released by the U.S. Forest Service on Tuesday read.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
