Italy– Forest and brush in flames across central Italian region

Rome – Italy’s central region of Lazio, where the capital city Rome is located, suffered 20 separate forest and brush fires on Friday, according to data released by the nation’s civil protection forces. Of these, eleven are still raging. Most of the blazes broke out in the morning in the province of Rieti, in Montegrottone and in Fara Sabina. The fire-fighting authorities sent Canadair aircraft to combat the flames there. Three separate incidents took place in the province of Frosinone, including one in Esperia, where two civil protection helicopters are currently at work, as well as two Canadair aircraft. Also damaged was Sant’Elia Fiumerapido, where a helicopter is counting on the assistance of volunteers to put out the flames. Finally, civil protection volunteers are also busy working to limit the damages in Monte San Giovanni Campano. The province of Rome was also involved when a fire broke out in Artena, as well as one in Castel Giuliano in Bracciano. Fiamignano in the province of Rieti suffered fire-related damage as well, as did the town of Nepi, in the province of Viterbo. Last but not least, flames took hold in the province of Latina, outside the town of Latina itself, on the via Appia, and in the locations of Minturno and Castelforte.
