Indonesia –– JAMBI: The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has warned its subordinate office in Jambi of the threat of forest fires, which Tebo, Muarojambi and East Tanjungjabung regencies are vulnerable to.
Jambi is considered as one of seven provinces susceptible to forest fires.
The fires have also affected residential areas in Kerinci, West Tanjungjabung and Sarolangun, where tens of houses as well as public facilities such as schools and markets have been gutted by the fires.
Jambi Zubaidi, the head of Jambi Disaster Mitigation Agency, said that as many as 461 fires were spotted across the province as of June 15.
We coordinate with the BNPB to anticipate these fire escalations. We have prepared ourselves with a mechanism to tackle the fires, he said.
