Spain — VALENCIA — A smoky fire in Valencia, Spain, prompted the evacuation of 70 residents from a village Wednesday, officials said.

Residents of Terrateig, a village of 350 people, were evacuated as a precaution because of smoke produced by the blaze, ThinkSpain reported.

“At this point in time, our priority is protecting the public,” Councillor Serafin Castellano said.

The blaze was burning the countryside and advancing on two fronts. Changing wind directions have made it difficult to fight the blaze.

ThinkSpain said 230 firefighters from 14 crews as well as members of the armed forces and 15 aircraft were fighting the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
