Wildfires, Smoke in Northern Canada

Canada — NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of smoke from wildfires in northern Canada on June 2, 2012, at 17:55 UTC (1:55 p.m. EDT). The red spots are hotspots detected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS).
The smoke in Alberta is from a large wildfire in Wood Buffalo National Park about 115 miles northwest of Fort McMurray. This fire has burned over 100,000 acres and has created smoky conditions across northern Alberta. Several wildfires have been burning in Saskatchewan as well, including the 15,000-acre Cree fire and the 12,000-acre Trout fire.
