Jordan — A fire that erupted on Saturday in a forest in Ajloun Governorate’s Safsafah area spread over 130 dunums on Sunday, burning hundreds of trees.

Agriculture Ministry Spokesperson Nimr Hadadeen said three of the ministry’s personnel were injured while trying to put out the fire, adding that they were reported to be in fair condition.

Ajloun Civil Defence Department (CDD) firefighters on Sunday worked to extinguish the fire in Ajloun, 70km northwest of the capital.

CDD Spokesperson Col. Farid Sharaa said high temperatures helped in spreading the blaze.

He added that a committee has been formed to investigate the reason behind the fire, noting that preliminary indications point to arson.

On Saturday, the fire spread over around 80 dunums of land and destroyed several trees over 100 years old.
