Weed/grass ordinance takes effect June 1

USA — The Corvallis Fire Department is reminding residents that the weed/grass ordinance goes into effect on June 1.

The ordinance states that all brush, grass, weeds, thistles, vines and other vegetation growing at a height of 10 inches or more must be cut as close to the ground as is reasonably practical, and debris removed. The vegetation must be maintained as low as possible between June 1 and Sept. 30.

The fire department will inspect land parcels in the city that are overgrown, or for which complaints have been received, and will send notices of violation to property owners whose land is in violation of the ordinance. If a property owner fails to abate the violation, the fire department can arrange for abatement — and bill the owner for services.

Residents wishing to make a complaint can call the weed abatement line at 541-766-6973. Residents must leave their name and contact information in order to file a complaint.

For more information on CFD’s Weed Abatement Program, call the department at 541-766-6961.
