USA — The Redding Fire Department is urging the public to be cautious doing any recreational activity near dry vegetation.

The warning comes a day after fire officials say the blaze that broke out Sunday afternoon on a field of dry grass was started when one of two men playing golf in the area struck a rock with a golf club.

Fire crews contained the .25-acre fire in the 11000 block of Woggon Lane off of Oasis Road within 10 minutes of their arrival.

The men moved quickly to call 911 at 2:26 p.m., and they also reached out to a nearby resident, who partially extinguished the fire using a garden hose.

The fire department, who this morning described the fire as accidental, said it advised the men not to play golf in dry vegetation.
