Argentina — A wildfire along Chuchut mountain chain has consumed over 400 hectares of native vegetation, informed officials today.
Javier Touriñan, Chubuts provincial minister, told State-run news agency Telam that weather conditions have complicated the situation. Unfortunately temperatures over 30 degrees (Celsius) have made putting out the fire a highly difficult job, he explained.
“Volunteers coming from nearby cities such as Comodoro Rivadavia, Trelew; and firefighters from Mendoza, La Pampa and Río Negro have joined efforts to put it out,” Touriñan said.
Locals had to be evacuated and lodged in Community Centres in the neighbouring area. No victims amongst the local population were reported, but the government urges those who live in the nearby area to abandon their homes, the official remarked.
