New Zealand — Divers have found the bodies of two men killed in a helicopter crash off New Zealand’s North Island.
The chopper disappeared last night while carrying out a reconnaissance flight over a bushfire on the Karikari Peninsula.
The wreckage was found early this morning, but the cause of the crash is still being investigated.
The chopper went missing about 10:00pm yesterday (local time).
Regional rural fire service chief Lance Johnson said the fire, believed to have been deliberately lit, erupted about 7:00pm, forcing some residents in the remote area to wade into the sea to escape the flames.
He said firefighters hoped the blaze would burn itself out.
