Ghana — The Seed Producers Association of Ghana has congratulated farmers and fishermen on the 27th Farmers Day Celebration and appealed to them to control bushfires.
Osafo Patrict Apullah, Vice President of the Association, said farmers who are setting fire to the bush were doing harm to themselves because their food crops were being destroyed and hunger would be their lot during the year.
He said bushfires were also detrimental to human life and economic trees which the farmers depended on to enhance their livelihoods. It also brings about climate change which is affecting agriculture due to poor soil fertility and erratic rainfall patterns.
Osafo Apullah urged the farmers and fishermen to avoid local politics since that brings about disunity and also destabilized the rank and file of farmers in the rural communities.
He expressed the associations gratitude to companies and agencies that made donations towards the celebration of Farmers Day.
