India — A second year BE student from Nagercoil was charred to death when he was allegedly caught in a forest fire on Wednesday evening.
Police said that the a group of engineering college students from a local institution, including L Antony Sahayam Micheal (19) along with six of his friends had gone trekking up the Sungankadai forest near Nagercoil when the accident occurred.
A forest fire had alleged broken out in this dense forest two days ago and had been brought under control, but the boys had not noticed it raging towards them as they were resting on the ground. When they woke up after feeling the heat, they had started running but Antony Sahyam Micheal was engulfed by it. His friends tried to rescue him and one of them sustained serious injuries, while the others managed to escape. They informed some of their fellow college students, who managed to bring fire service personnel to the spot and rescue them.
