Fires damage Akkar forests

Lebanon — Civil Defense personnel were fighting a blaze in Douseh, Akkar, Tuesday afternoon after fires erupted in various areas in the north Lebanon district in the morning, damaging thousands of square meters of forest.

Around 300,000 square meters of greenery have so far been damaged in Douseh, along with numerous houses.

In Jabal Akroum, fire damaged around 400,000 square meters of trees, including oak and pine. A military helicopter assisted Civil Defense personnel to extinguish the flames.

A fire in Qobeiyat, was extinguished at 8:30 a.m.

The cause of the fires is yet to be identified.

Residents of Akkar called on the government to send reinforcements to the area to prevent the fire from reaching other areas and damaging nearby houses.

There are currently no estimates of the material losses caused by the fires.
