USA — Investigators say a wildfire caused by a plane crash in California burned twice as many buildings as initially thought.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Daniel Berlant says Thursday that 27 homes and 52 outbuildings were destroyed. The blaze was ignited by a weekend plane crash that killed two people in a remote area of Kern County.
Firefighters initially thought 12 homes and 18 outbuildings had burned.
Berlant says the 20-plus acre fire is 83 percent contained with full containment expected Friday.
He says about 2,000 firefighters are still working to build lines around the 23 square-mile fire.
Firefighters also say a 500-acre blaze in Aqua Dulce in northern Los Angeles County was fully contained.
