USA — A 76-year-old man was killed when his home burned in a grass fire, the sheriff’s department said.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office said the mobile home in the 1300 block of Travis Lane near State Highway 243 and Farm-to-Market 2727 caught fire at about 5:30 p.m.

Family friends said 76-year-old James McClain died in the fire.

His wife and their adult son who were also in the home at the time of the fire were injured and taken to an area hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Family friends said the curtains inside the mobile home were engulfed in flames when McClain’s son woke up. He was able to get his mother out but he was unable to go back inside to get his father, family friends said.

Several fire departments helped put out the fire.

The Kaufman County fire marshal is investigating the blaze.
