Namibia — A VELD fire has been raging in the Spitzkoppe area since Friday afternoon. By Sunday afternoon, the fire had still not been brought under control.
According to Moshanyan Goagoseb, agricultural technician from the Spitzkoppe farming area, it remains unclear how the fire started. It cannot be ruled out that a human being is to blame, he said.
He said an assessment was to be done by yesterday to establish exactly how much grazing was destroyed by the fire. But it is an extremely large area, he added.
Goagoseb said the fire started at about 15h00 on Friday afternoon.
By Sunday afternoon, it had reached the Sukses area.
