Russia — NOVOSIBIRSK — Wildfires are spreading in Siberia, Russian authorities said Sunday.

“There are 137 hotbeds of wildfires on a total area of 26,055 hectares (54,450 acres) in the Siberian federal district,” the Emergencies Ministry told RIA Novosti. It blamed human activity for most of them.

The Irkutsk region reported 110 new outbreaks in the last 24 hours, and Krasnoyarsk also was affected, the ministry said.

Forest fires ravaged several regions of Russia last summer, killing 62 people and making thousands homeless.
