USA — Orange firefighters were able to control a fire that spread from the grass to bulk plastic in about 15 minutes on Thursday afternoon.

A grass fire reported by employees at Beckett and Beckett Inc., a rubber and plastic exporting business, spread to reclaimed bulk plastic on Highway 87 South at the company’s facility, according to a news release from Orange Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Ziller.

When responding firefighters approached the area and saw a large column of black smoke, they knew the fire involved more than grass, according to the release.

The firefighters controlled the fire about 15 minutes after the first crew arrived, but stayed on scene for about three hours to pick up fire hose and make sure the fire was extinguished, according to the release.

A broken electrical line behind the Beckett and Beckett Inc. property likely caused the fire, according to the release.
