USA — Moore County officials confirmed this afternoon that a Cactus firefighter badly burned while battling a massive grassfire about two weeks ago has died from his injuries.
Cactus City Manager Steve Schmidt-Witcher said Elias Jaquez, 49, died of his injuries about 4 a.m. at a Lubbock hospital.
Jaquez suffered third-degree burns over more than 60 percent of his body while responding to an April 9 grassfire that burned about 35,000 in rural Moore and Potter counties.
Flags will be flown at half-staff today, tomorrow and on the day of his funeral in Cactus and Dumas, county officials said.
Funeral arrangements are pending for the volunteer firefighter.
