Vinton Man Killed in Grass Fire Near Urbana

USA — An 82-year-old Vinton man was pronounced dead at the scene of a grass fire located just west of Urbana.
It is believed that the man was burning off a garden area on his farm around 2:15 p.m. today when the fire got away from him in the gusty winds. While trying to extinguish the fire he was apparently overcome by the fire.
Fire crews from Urbana Fire Department were able to quickly extinguish the flames upon arrival.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
