USA — Police said the two bodies found this morning in Paterson after firefighters put out a brush fire were of a man and woman who they believe were homeless.

The unidentified man and woman were living in a tent-like cardboard structure about 20 feet off the Route 19 exit ramp on Interstate 80 in Paterson, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite.

Investigators found several items of personal belonging at the scene, including cooking utensils and food warming equipment.

A passing motorist reported a brush fire at 2:30 a.m. this morning, police said.

“At this point it looks like they were trying to keep warm or trying to cook something,” Polite said.

The bodies have been taken to the medical examiner’s office, according to police.
