Wilson And Nash County Firefighters Battle Weekend Fires

USA — According to North Carolina Forestry Service more than 130 brush and forest fires were reported on Saturday February 19th. Just about every Fire Company in Nash County and adjoining Wilson County were pressed into service battling some of these fires. Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wilson County Fire Units responded to a large brush fire along Boswellville and Rainwater Road near Artis Road. On that day, the wind was gusting over 30 mph. Within a short time over 50 acres were involved.
Firefighters from Crossroads, Black Creek, Contenea, East Nash and Rock Ridge volunteer departments, along with assistance from Wilson Fire/Rescue Services have been on the scene since the call came in were able to protect many homes and outbuildings from this fast spreading fire. It took fire fighters over three hours to bring this blaze under control.
Neighboring Nash County were faced with the same fire problem and many of the fires were still burning throughout the night. Before the weekend ended their were over 300 fires were burning in North Carolina.
