USA — Local firefighters are banding together to raise funds for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. They will be hosting a Texas Hold’em poker fundraising tournament at Cadillac Jack’s Gaming Resort in Deadwood Jan. 16. Donations made at the tournament will go to support the foundation’s missions.

“We’re excited to have the public join us for a really good time and help support a great cause,” event coordinator Robert Cota said.

The entry fee is $60 and registration can be done on the day of the event. Participants must be 21 or over. To register for the event, call 645-0845. For more information, contact Cota at or Rochelle Plocek, series coordinator at

The foundation has been providing financial assistance, emotional support, advocacy and recognition to the injured wildland firefighters and their families since 1999. In addition, it partners with private and interagency organizations to educate the public about wildland fires and promote safety.
