USA —  About two acres of palm trees have burned near an oasis in the Coachella Valley Preserve in the desert near Thousand Palms.

Riverside County Fire Department officials say the fire started at about 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, and it is highly visible throughout the valley.

Officials said the fire could burn up to 10 acres of desert brush. Winds are moving at about 8 mph.

Seventy-five firefighters are battling the blaze.

The preserve’s website says the California fan palm, the only palm native to the area, grows in the oases.
