USA — A brush fire in North Naples causes four homes to be evacuated. Flames started shooting up around 2 pm today from Collier’s Reserve near Palm River. It was contained within an hour and only about an acre was burned. But shifts in the wind concerned fire fighters as well as homeowners.
“I just saw evidence of a lot of smoke starting up and the flames were starting and it just progressed and the wind picked up. It got pretty scary,” said Paul Thiesen of Naples.
“The woods are pretty dense. The houses are pretty close together, deeply embedded in the wooded area. So the fire itself is only about an acre in size, but the homes within that immediate vicinity pose some challenges for us,” said Chief James Cunningham with the fire department.
The 13-acre preserve is next to Collier’s Reserve Country Club and our cameras caught firefighters actually using golf carts to get to and from the command post.
