Occupied Syrian Golan, (SANA) – The Israeli occupation forces on Monday set a massive fire in the occupied part of Ain al-Tina site which overlooks Majdal Shams Town in the occupied Syrian Golan.

This aggressive act comes in the framework of the inhuman practices of the Israeli occupation forces which target the people and the environment in the Syrian Golan through stealing water, uprooting trees and dumping nuclear wastes to pollute the soil and groundwater.

Governor of Quneitra Province Riyad Hijab said that all the required measures were taken by the Civil Defense, the Agriculture Directorate and the Establishment of Water to prevent the spread of fire in the liberated territories.

“The Israeli occupation forces set such fire every year as they did two years ago when the fire reached the forests of Brayqa Village destroying about 10,000 dunums,” said Quneitra Fire Brigade Leader Firas Samara.

Israel continues its hostile exercises as reports published last week indicated that the farmers of the occupied Syrian Golan lost up to USD 25 millions after the Israeli Mekorot Water Company started  last September pumping large quantities of water from the 8-million-cubic meter pool of Ram into Tabarayia Lake and water storage tanks in the settlements.

Quneitra, southern Syria (SANA) – For the third day in a row, the Israeli occupation authorities continued to deliberately set fire in Golan, causing great conflagrations along the Armistice Line as part of their daily hostile policy.

In a statement to SANA, Governor of Quneitra Riyad Hijab said the continuing Israeli practices of setting fire in Golan will damage its environment, adding that they manifest Israel’s persistence in stealing Golan’s resources such as water theft, uprooting trees, earthmoving and burying nuclear waste.

Chief of the Fire Brigade in Quneitra Firas Samara said an Israeli patrol set fire on Friday to al-Kharsa hill in Golan, underlining the Brigade’s readiness to put out any future fires to be caused by the Israeli occupation forces before moving to the liberated part of the governorate.

Director of Environment in Quneitra Hamza Sleiman said the conflagrations are eating up more green areas in Golan, threatening many animals and unique plants with extinction, not to mention air pollution.

The fires spread across an area of 1500 hectares of green lands in 3 days.

DAMASCUS, 22 October 2010 – Syria Friday accused the Israeli forces of continuously setting massive fire in the occupied Golan Heights, the Syria official SANA news agency reported.

“The Israeli occupation forces set such fire every year as they did two years ago when the fire reached the forests of Brayqa Village destroying about 10,000 acres,” Quneitra Fire Brigade Leader Firas Samara was quoted by SANA as saying.

Israel captured the Syrian Golan Heights following the 1967 War and unilaterally annexed it in 1981. Syria and Israel have been technically at war ever since.

In June, a Syrian report accused Israel of continuously seizing lands, violating liberties, keeping Syrian captives detained, and arbitrarily exploiting water and natural resources in the occupied Golan Heights.
