USA — Fire crews fully contained the Machine Gun fire Friday evening.
The fire, which was sparked by gunfire Sunday when National Guard soldiers were taking target practice at nearby Camp Williams, consumed 4,326 acres and three Herriman homes, and forced the evacuation of nearly 5,000 people. All the evacuations were lifted by Thursday.
At about 6 p.m. Friday, fire crews had reined in the wildfire, said Jason Curry, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
Were 100 percent contained, he said.
When the fire was at its worst, nearly 440 people were fighting it, using 29 engines, helicopters, airplanes and bulldozers.
Now were just demobilizing crews, Curry said.Thirty to 35 people will work the fire to its conclusion.
Curry said there were some flare-ups on Friday, which may continue until the wildfire is completely extinguished, but he had no estimate on when that might happen.
