USA —  A fire fueled by strong winds spread across more than 1,000 acres of farmland today, destroying one vacant residential home and three other outdoor structures less than 10 miles southeast of Greeley.

The Platte Valley Fire Protection District fought the fire with the help of six other departments from surrounding areas, said Stephanie Cooke, a spokeswoman for the fire department.

Firefighters managed to contain the grass fire, located near County Roads 49 and 44, early Thursday evening, and were working to put out the remaining structural fires and hot spots into the night. About 40 firefighters battled the blaze, Cooke said.

The source of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries.
