Sri Lanka —  A large area of the Bambaragala Forest Reserve in Meegahakivula Divisional Secretariat was destroyed by a bush fire. However the department had taken steps to prevent the spread of the fire. In a similar incident earlier about 20 acres of the Diggala forest in the Meegahakivula Divisional Secretariat was destroyed by fire. A senior official of the Forest Conservation Department said that poachers often set fire to the forests to track down animals and that they could be arrested if the public provided information.
