Brush Fire Forces Residents Out of Homes in Therma

USA —  A two-acre brush fire is burning at Fillmore Street and Avenue 70 in Thermal Monday afternoon.

Evacuations have been ordered by the fire department for the residents of several mobile homes in the area, according to California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: According to the Riverside County Fire Department, eight engines have been called to scene, one helicopter, one air attack, 42 firefighters and two fire crews are fighting the fire. The vegetation fire has burned about 5-10 acres.

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: The fire has been contained, but it’s unknown when residents will be allowed back into their homes. Cal Fire crews are expected to mop up through the evening. Five mobile homes were evacuated but are said to be safe, according to Division Chief Mike. However he says one travel trailer was destroyed.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
