Russia — The smoke from Russia’s wildfires is travelling east and northeast and is no hazard for Europe.

Officials also say the wildfire situation is at its worst in regions around Moscow and on the Upper Volga.

In the Region of Moscow Sunday, firefighters, volunteers and troops reduced the blazes from 49 to 42, and the burning hectarage, from 210 to 153.

The battle is particularly difficult where dry peat bogs continue to smolder.

Moscow remains smothered by wildfire smog.

The smoke has entered the city’s underground rail system, reduced visibility on roads and even led to the closure of airports in a number of instances.
