Johannesburg – A group of 17 children were burned when they tried to put out a veld fire near Bela Bela, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.
The children were playing soccer at Vinger Kraal when the fire started on Tuesday at 17:30, said Colonel Motlafela Mojapelo.
“Apparently these children attempted to put down the fire, but the wind was strong,” he said.
The children were taken to hospital.
The SABC reported on Wednesday that one of the children had since died, but police could not confirm this.
