USA — Authorities have identified the man who was killed by a brush fire inside of a Southeast Roanoke cave.
Firefighters found the body of Ricky Dean Burks, a 50-year-old from Roanoke, after they put out a fire at a small cave near the intersection of Fourth Street and Albermale Avenue Southeast, Roanoke Police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said.
Firefighters found a mattress that had burned down to the springs, kitchen utensils and heavy jackets among other objects, fire officials have said. The cave extends about 17 feet into the hillside, and is about four feet wide by four feet tall.
The fire did not appear to be criminal in nature, Johnson said Friday.
