3 Killed in Gas Line Explosion Near Dallas

USA — At least three people were killed and six people hurt Monday afternoon in a natural gas explosion at a well in Hood County, TX.
The explosion took place shortly before 3 p.m., west of Cleburne near the corner of Johnson, Hood and Somervell counties. Officials said workers apparently hit an underground natural gas line, causing the explosion.
The injured, who were all burned, were transported to area hospitals by private vehicles.
Five people have been taken to the Glen Rose Medical Center, where they are all in stable condition, said Gary Marks, CEO of the medical center. There were also reports of patients being transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Several area fire departments from all three counties are on the scene battling a grassfire that was presumably ignited from the explosion. Firefighters haven’t been able to get too close to the gas line due to the heat from the fire. Currently, firefighters are battling the fire on the perimeter to keep the grassfire from spreading.
No residents are facing immediate danger from the explosion, though dozens of nearby residents have told NBC DFW that they can see the fire and continue to hear explosions.
“Our windows shook at SWP Construction in Godley, TX! It sounded like a tornado coming through!” said Scott Pitre.
“[It] shook the ground, the house. Sounds like DFW airport is in our backyard,” said Valerie Crowe.
Cleburne is about 50 miles to the southwest of Dallas.
